Armed clashes erupted in the town of Um Al-Aranib, 150 km south of Sabha, between gunmen from Tabu and Zaghawah tribes, military sources have confirmed, adding that the clashes resulted in the killing of three people.

The sources said that the clashes broke out Wednesday following an attack by an armed group belonging to Zaghawah tribe on Tamsah checkpoint, 230 km southeast of Sabha, killing five Tabu tribesmen stationed there.

As a result, Tabu militants attacked the headquarters of Siniya (Chinese) Company situated in Um-Al-Aranib to demand the handover of Zaghawah attackers, who are using the company as a location, the sources added.

Elders and dignitaries of Um Al-Aranib managed to reconcile between the two tribes after two days of tension.
