The member of Tobruk parliament from Misrata city, Mohammed Al-Raeid, was abducted in Tobruk by an armed group on Wednesday

The armed group intercepted Al-Raeid while on his way to the airport and demanded the release of their relatives, who are imprisoned in Misrata for security cases, in exchange of Al-Raeid’s release.

However, the abduction did not last long after the interference of Tobruk notables and elders. Reports say Al-Raeid is now at one of the elders' house.

The Head of Media Office of Tobruk parliament, Abdullah Blihig, said the incident was just a reckless act by civilian young men.

“The Young men did not harm or upset the MP or even confiscate his mobile phone, they only had a message and wanted to get it through to him about their demands for releasing their relative jailed in Misrata.” Said Blihig.

Mohammed Al-Raeid sworn in Tuesday and joined the rest of MPs in Tobruk parliament after boycotting the sessions since August 2014.
