A joint patrol of the Naval Special Forces, the Coast Guard, and Port Security in the Zawiya Refinery has rescued 12 irregular migrants from the sea after eight days of being stranded.

The Coast Guard of Zawiya said in a statement on Facebook that the migrants were rescued after a six-hour search.

Upon their rescue, the migrants told the rescue teams that they have been stranded in the sea for eight days.

Their boat set out from Tripoli, heading towards Europe, the migrants confirmed, disclosing that they were trapped with no food or water for six days.

The migrants, mainly Egyptians, besides two Africans, were suffering superficial burns when they were picked up, according to the rescue teams.
