The municipality of Souq Al-Jumua in Tripoli has blamed the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) for the deterioration of power crisis and the long outages in the last week.

In a statement on Monday, the municipality urged the Presidential Council to take the necessary measures to solve this crisis and review the spending on power sector knowing that no positive results had been achieved.

"There can be some parties which are taking advantage of their authorities in order to toughen living conditions on Libyans to use their suffering as a pressing card. The Presidential Council should cease listening only to GECOL's complaints which are limitless. Their ineffectiveness is always here, whether or not there is war." The statement reads.

It added that despite GECOL's announcement of repairing power generation units, Libyans have not seen yet any improvement in power supplies.

"All government companies have one thing in common: their failure that is usually blamed on crises in order to manage to remain in authority." The statement explained.
