At least six children have been injured as a result of random shootings and shelling in Benghazi east of Libya, the city's main medical centre has confirmed.

The victims include children aged between three and five years old, Benghazi Medical Center disclosed in a press release, confirming that they were brought to the centre to receive treatment.

Two children were shot in the head, and one of them is reportedly in a critical condition.

One child is suffering brain hemorrhage and fractions after the bullet lodged in the eyelid, according to the centre.

Neurosurgery specialist Dr. Hanaa Boussaita explained that two cases need to undergo a delicate surgery, while a third child was badly hit by fragments of shrapnel that disfigured his body and requires plastic surgery intervention.

Two children are receiving treatment in the orthopedic section, but their condition is stable, Dr. Boussaita confirmed.

According to local sources, six children were hurt in a random shooting and shelling that hit the neighbourhood of Al-Hawari and Al-Fuwayhat Al-Gharbiyet.
