An uprising against Daesh broke out in Sirte on Tuesday as local residents gear up to expel the terrorist group out of their city.

Street clashes erupted between the angry locals and Daesh militants, who have been in control of the city for many months now, in the residential area No.3 where many casualties were reported.

On Monday, Daesh murdered Khaled Al-Forjani, the imam of Kortoba Mosque in the residential area No.3 for his anti-Daesh views. His murder sparked widespread anger and encouraged the locals to turn against Daesh. Unconfirmed press reports say the locals have gained full control of the residential area No.3 in addition to the city's port. There are also street clashes around the university.

In Misrata, the military council declared a state of emergency following orders from the General Staff to support Sirte locals. There are also reports of airstrikes carried out by the Air Force of the General Staff against Daesh targets in Sirte.
