Benghazi in eastern Libya saw security unrest and assaults on shops after investigation militia leader Ashraf Al-Faydi had kidnapped the wife of a resident, raped her and forcefully divorced her from her husband.
Residents from Awaqir tribe attacked shops in Benghazi owned by Al-Faydi after one of the tribesmen (Jaber Al-Fessi) said in video circulated on social media that his wife was kidnapped, raped and divorced from him by force.
One of the man's relatives said in a video that the wife was abducted by Al-Faydi and called on Khalifa Haftar and his son Saddam to do them justice against Al-Faydi who intentionally humiliated them because he has a vendetta with their family.
Awaqir tribesmen appeared in another video at the criminal investigation office and the new head of investigation militia Alaa Bujawari said Al-Faydi would be caught over the accusations against him.
Meanwhile, the wife herself, the man's divorced wife whom he claimed was abducted and raped, appeared in a video and denied all her ex-husband's accusations and said she was divorced from him 20 days ago due to his negligence toward his kids and cheating on her with another woman in her house. She threatened legal action against rumor spreaders.
