The General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons announced the inauguration of the DNA labs with a skilled cadre of national staff.

The head of the commission, Kamal Al-Siwi, confirmed Tuesday at a press conference in Tripoli that the General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons has established work teams with various tasks, noting that they have received the first DNA matching results conducted by Libyan staff.

"The new lab equipped with advanced instruments and tools will have a major role in the process of establishing the victims' identity, which will help alleviate the suffering of relatives who have the right to identify the bodies of their loved ones," Al-Siwi said.

The commission collected 14,000 specimens from families of victims, while the missing registrants reached (3560) missing persons from across Libyan cities, to date, according to Al-Siwi.

He stressed that the commission is currently working intensively on the file of those missing from Tarhouna city, whose numbers reached (350) missing persons.

The searching teams, so far recovered (139) bodies from the mass graves in Tarhouna and south of Tripoli, Al-Siwi noted.
