The Special Deterrence Force has rescued the General Manager of St James Hospital Group in Libya Pierre Baldacchino, who was kidnapped in Tripoli on December 15.

A five million euro ransom was demanded by the kidnappers before the SDF stormed his detention den in Ain Zara district last night.

Baldacchino said he was kept blindfolded and tied up for the whole time of abduction. Two of the kidnappers were arrested, the SDF said, while the others are on the run.

In October, the SDF rescued Noel Sciberras, the Maltese manager of CT Park Libya JV. Sciberras remained in custody in a farm for 46 days and a ransom of € 5 million was requested by the kidnappers before his rescue operation.
