Central Tripoli Municipality has sent an urgent call to save the Corniche, one of the most important tourist attractions in the city.

Mayor Abdul-Raouf Bait Al-Mal said in a press conference Thursday that his municipal council had sent letters and reports to the ministry of transport two months ago to alert them about the Corniche damage, but the ministry did not respond, according to him.

Tripoli Corniche, a seaside promenade, has started to erode by the sea and some parts were damaged due to misuse by some citizens and lack of repair.

"If we do not hurry up to save it, we will expect a full collapse of the Corniche and this will cause heavy damages that may affect its frequenters." Bait Al-Mal warned.

Tripoli Corniche was established in the seventies of the last century and was since then an important destination for the people of Tripoli and visitors because of celebrations, festivals  and children games that take place there, especially in the summer.

The Corniche as well constitutes a solution for many traffic problems and jams in addition to its role as a facilitator of traffic flow between east and west ports and the south of the city
