The commander of the Libyan self-styled army in the eastern region Khalifa Haftar arrived on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia and met with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to discuss the latest development in Libya, Saudi News Agency has reported.

It added that King Salman reiterated to Haftar the keenness of Saudi Arabia on the stability and security of Libya and the prosperity of its people.

The agency indicated that they also talked about the current developments in Libya.

Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest supporters to Haftar's operations in Libya in coordination with its neighbor and strong ally; the UAE as well as the regional ally; Egypt.

The trio has been supportive of Haftar since he launched Dignity Operation in Benghazi in 2014, providing his forces with logistic, military and political support.

Saudi Arabia is also Haftar's number one religious backer as it keeps providing him with loyalists from the Salafi-Madkhali sect who make up a great deal of his forces, with several of them preaching in mosques in his favor and in disfavor of anyone who opposes him all across Libya.
