Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj has warned against attempts to harass the GNA forces in the regions of Sirte and Al-Jufra in central Libya, calling on the international community to act decisively towards those obstructing the political process in Libya.

Al-Sarraj's remarks came during his meeting with the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell in Tripoli, on Tuesday, in which they discussed the latest developments in the country, according to the PC information office.

The EU top diplomat reiterated the EU's support for the understanding reached between the GNA head Al-Sarraj and speaker of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) to achieving security and peace in Libya.

"EU strongly supports Berlin process, mediation efforts and de-escalation measures, including arms embargo – key elements to bring Libyan conflict to an end," Borrell tweeted.

He also praised Al-Sarraj's efforts to achieve stability and for his "strong leadership" to control the situation, a statement by the PC information office said.

Al-Sarraj reaffirmed his government's commitment to move towards the points of convergence but remained skeptical as to whether the other party would abide by its statement and withdraw its forces and the Russian mercenaries from Sirte and Al-Jufra.

"The other party is concerned with many of the points in the agreement, including disarmament in the city of Sirte and Al-Jufra region and lifting the oil blockade," Sarraj told the EU official, warning that attempts to breach the ceasefire in those areas may torpedo the agreement.

The meeting also discussed immigration in its various aspects, where Borrell acknowledged the union’s failure to provide effective support to the Libyan Coast Guard.

He indicated that funds were allocated to support the Libyan authorities with vessels during the coming months, according to the PC information office.
