The Chairman of the Presidential Council, Fayez Sarraj, has denounced the exhumation of the tomb of the leader of the Senussi movement, Mahdi bin Mohammed Senussi in Kufra town, and called on the Attorney-General and relevant security authorities to initiate criminal proceedings to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement to Anadolu Agency, Sarraj described the attack as a crime that violates the sanctity of the grave and one that creates discord in the nation.

He explained that silence on this crime would result in the encouragement for those who carried out to continue similar crimes and create sedition, by provoking fellow Muslims to retaliate, which affects all Libyans.

Sarraj called on all religious scholars, forces and political and social trends to denounce and condemn such criminal acts which drive citizens away from the spirit of Islam.

An armed group believed to be Sobol Al-Salam Brigade of Dignity Operation attacked on Friday the shrine of Mahdi Senussi, the father of Libya’s former king Idris Senussi, and took his remains to unknown location.
