The lawyer of Muammar Gaddafi's son, Saif Al-Islam, Khalid Al-Zaedi, denied Saturday that his client spoke to the British newspaper "The Times" and said Gaddafi didn't issue any statements about running for upcoming Libya elections.

The lawyer told Libya Al-Watan TV that he was surprised to read The Times' report about the alleged Saif Gaddafi's elections bid and that no such thing had happened, adding that as Gaddafi's lawyer, he retained the legal right to take measures against the British newspaper for such a rumored report.

He also added that Gaddafi's team wanted to arrange an interview with Bloomberg back in 2020 to talk about the political situation in Libya, but the efforts didn't go through.

The Times claimed that Saif Gaddafi was intending to run for Libya president in the upcoming December elections, saying "he spoke on the phone to confirm his identity and say he was well. It said Saif Al-Islam was in contact with western diplomats to receive support when he returns to the public and political life.
