The son of the long-time dictator Muamar Gaddafi, Saif Al-Islam, is back and this time he wants to run for the head of state, according to a Gaddafi family spokesman.

The spokesman for Gaddafi family, Basem Al-Hashimi Al-Soul, told Egypt Today that Saif Gaddafi will run in the 2018 presidential election that is being now prepared by the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) under the auspices of the UNSMIL.

"Saif enjoys the support of major tribes in Libya and he will offer Libyans measures to stabilize the country in accordance with the Libyan geography and in coordination with all Libyan factions." the spokesman told the Egyptian news operator.

Saif Gaddafi, who is sentenced to death by a firing squad in absentia, was released in June after a six-year imprisonment by militia fighters in Zintan.
