Sabha municipality has threatened in a statement to close Sharara and Al-Feel oilfields as well as the water system known as Man-Made River if fuel did not arrive in the southern region in 72 hours.

In its joint statement with the elders and dignitaries of the city, the municipality said the city is suffering from acute shortages of fuel and the widespread crimes as well as illegal immigration, let alone the systematic destruction of state institutions leading to a civil disobedience and thus lack of all basic needs.

The statement also accused the House of Representatives (HoR) and the officials at the ministries from the southern region of being unaware of what is going on in the region, saying calling for the fuel and other necessities in the region is their right and should be granted to them without any claim of favor by any party.

The National Oil Corporation and Brega oil company said two days ago that they started an urgent plan that aims at providing the southern region with fuel via Misrata depot, urging the security departments to secure the roads and protect the tank trucks as well as the drivers, who have been abstaining from going southward due to bad security conditions and armed robberies.

Meanwhile, the southern region is suffering from an acute shortage of fuel due to bad security conditions, thus leading to rocketing prices of fuel in the black market. The issue also led to the closure of many state institutions like Sabha University and Sabha Hospital, where several medics said they could not go to their jobs as they had no fuel to drive there.
