Russia welcomed Thursday the withdrawal of resignation by the Head of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord Fayez Al-Sarraj, who in September said he would step down at end of October.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters that Al-Sarraj's decision made sense as he would, by retracting his resignation, avoid plunging Libya in a political vacuum.
Russia Today reported that Bogdanov also said that many Libyans asked Al-Sarraj to give up his decision of resignation so there could be no political vacuum, adding that Al-Sarraj from the beginning conditioned his resignation to a solution and new authorities to receive power from him in Libya.
"We're looking forward for the Tunisia-hosted Libyan Dialogue Forum under the auspices of the UN for reshaping Libya's political structure and forming some new authorities for a year and a half before holding elections". He explained.
Al-Sarraj said his withdrawal of resignation came after the calls of the House of Representatives in Tripoli and High Council of State as well as friendly states, urging him to remain in his post till a new authority takes office.
