An indiscriminate rocket shell fell on Mitiga Airport in Tripoli on Tuesday evening forcing aviation authorities to temporarily suspend the flights.

Sources said the rocket shell fell near the runway, but it caused no damage to the airport.

The air traffic controllers left the control tower in panic, the sources added, while the arrival flights were diverted to Misrata Airport.

No group claimed responsibility for the shelling.

Deadly clashes broke out at the airport on January 15 between the Special Deterrence Force (SDF) and Tajoura-based Brigade 33 as the latter tried to storm into the SDF's headquarters inside the airport and free prisoners fighting for the brigade after negotiations for their release had failed.
