The coastal road leading to Janzour district west of central Tripoli has been reopened for traffic after being blocked in the early hours of Sunday following clashes between two armed factions.

The spokesman for the Janzour Knights Brigade, Ahmed Al-Jalil, confirmed the opening of the coastal road and the end of the crisis after hours of clashes.

Online footage and videos showed traffic movement normally flowing under the "Janzour "17 Overpass".

According to Al-Jalil, the clashes erupted last night after armed groups from the 55th Infantry Brigade and the Stabilization Support Service attacked a security patrol of the Janzour Knights.

The clashes ended with no casualties, but the Janzour Education Monitoring Office announced the suspension of studies for Sunday due to the poor security conditions in the area, as it put it.

The attack launched by the 55th Infantry Brigade and the Stabilization Support Service - reportedly loyal to the PM-designate of Parliament Fathi Bashagha- against the Janzour battalion was a revenge for the killing of Walid Elqitt, a senior militiaman affiliated with the so-called 55 Brigade of Wershifana, which aligns with the attacking forces in their political leaning.

Elqitt was being hunted by the Deterrent Force of the Interior Ministry for crimes of kidnapping and highway robbery before he got killed in an exchange of fire during a raid for his arrest.

The attacking armed groups accuse the Janzour battalion of coordinating with the Deterrent Force to facilitate their entry to Wershifana where he was hiding.
