More than 40 families have been evacuated from the conflict area in Zawiya city on Saturday, the Libyan Red Crescent has reported, saying many other families are still trapped due to the heavy gunfire.

The LRC sent an urgent appeal to the warring groups to halt fighting to enable the trapped families to leave to safe zones.

“We urge the trapped families to calm down and keep away from widows until we manage to evacuate them,” the LRC advises.

Heavy fighting between Al-Hanish and Al-Khadrawi armed groups renewed in Jamal Street in downtown on Sunday morning, causing panic among local residents. The clash of power started on Friday and left at least seven people dead and others wounded.
