Demonstrators gathered, on Friday, in Martyrs Square in Tripoli to voice their support for the Government of National unity and denounce the Tobruk-based Parliament decision that named ex-interior minister Fathi Bashagha to head a new government.

The demonstrators raised banners demanding the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to withdraw from the scene and facilitate the drafting of election laws to organize an electoral process as soon as possible.

They also stressed the importance of holding a constitutional referendum accusing the HoR of deliberately prolonging the country's crisis by extending their mandate along with the HCS.

The demonstrators held the two bodies responsible for the wars and the economic crises the country was experiencing.

The Tobruk-based Parliament declared Thursday Fathi Bashagha as the new interim prime minister and assigned him to form a new government within two weeks. In response, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah said in an interview that the move was another attempt of the eastern forces to take over Tripoli after failing to do so in 2019.
