President of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso has confirmed that the AU mission would return to operate from its official HQ in Tripoli in the coming days.

President Nguesso, who is Chairman of the African Union High-level Committee on Libya, met with the Presidential Council Head Muhammed Menfi on the sidelines of the AU summit that wrapped up in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, on Sunday.

A statement by the PC said the two sides exchanged notes on the developing situation in Libya.

Nguesso also accepted an invitation from Menfi to visit Libya with Moussa Faki, the current Chairperson of the AU commission.

He expressed to Menfi his full support for the reconciliation file led by the Presidential Council and for holding elections under appropriate conditions in response to the aspirations of 2.5 million voters so they could choose their representatives and president without exclusion.

For his part, Menfi praised the substantial support provided by the AU, including the formation of a high-level committee on Libya and the support and assistance that Libya received from its Chairman, President Nguesso.
