Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah met on Saturday with representatives of civil society organizations to discuss the role of this sector as a link between the state and people, especially in the upcoming elections next December.

The Government of National Unity (GNU) said that the ministers of social affairs, youth, culture and knowledge development, minister of state for women's affairs, the government's spokesman, and the director of the foreign affairs department participated in the meeting.

According to the GNU statement, the meeting touched on the important role of civil society institutions, which complements that of the government in delivering services to those who deserve it, as well as their important role during the potential elections, by raising awareness and encouraging people to register and participate.

The organizations' representatives briefed the PM on the problems facing their work and stressed the need to organize the sector in a way that guarantees its effectiveness and independence.

They also called for unifying the Civil Society Commission, and to take their comments on the draft regulation for the work of civil society organizations into consideration, to amend and adopt it as soon as possible.
