The Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA) has said that the new Haftar coup stresses the need to defeat his authoritarian objective of total control, which would demolish Libyan hopes to build a civil and democratic state.

The PC added in a statement on Monday, that the coup of this war criminal is not a surprise, but a misguided step to attempt to distract from his defeats and failure to seize control, deflecting accountability for the killing and displacement of thousands of Libyans.

The Council also noted that it is no longer acceptable for any country to invoke its legitimacy after a coup against the very same political bodies, which initially supported him and appointed him to his post.

The PC called on all members of the House of Representatives to join their colleagues in Tripoli to initiate meaningful dialogue and reach a permanent solution through the ballot box.

It also appealed to all Libyans, particularly in the eastern region, to lay down their arms and take the side of reason in the country, especially after Haftar’s intentions were laid bare in his hungry pursuit of power.
