The Presidential Council (PC) has denied reports circulated by some media outlets and statements of persons who it said "are not part of its government" concerning reaching a final agreement on the unification of the military establishment.

"The Libyan military establishment of the Government of National Accord (GNA) has been and continues to be supportive of this process in view of its importance of ending the current division." the PC said in a statement.

The PC warned of the consequences of such "irresponsible statements" that might have an adverse effect on the outcomes of the crucial meetings that have been going on for more than a year now, explaining that this will only contribute to prolonging the crisis.

The statement continued saying "the GNA has made clear that it will not deviate from its principles in this regard in any agreement that would commit to the principles mentioned in the Libyan Political Agreement."

The statement stressed that at the top of these constants is to maintain the principle of separation of powers and that the military institution would serve under the executive civilian authority, explaining that these are the precepts and principles of democracy, and this is the basis of building a state of institutions and law.

Earlier, the spokesman for Dignity Operation, Ahmed al-Mismari, claimed in a press statement that a formal agreement was reached on the unification of the military establishment in Libya during Cairo meetings.

The agreement provides for forming a national security council, a higher defence council and a general command council, according to al-Mismari.

He also added that the agreement included the organizational structure, tasks and duties of each council, in addition to some proposals concerning the armed groups in the western region.
