Member of Parliament, Al-Sadiq Al-Kahili, has criticized the Parliament's Speaker Aqila Saleh for his move to select members of the joint constitutional committee, individually, without consultation with the HoR.

Following her assignment as Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Libya, Stephani Williams requested the east-based Parliament (HoR) and the High Council of State in Tripoli to nominate six delegates each to form a joint committee dedicated to developing a consensual constitutional basis.

According to MP AlKahili, Saleh selected the HoR team for the committee without a mandate from the MPs or even holding a consultation session to discuss the decision.

"It is not clear what Saleh's intention is by taking such a step," he said, insisting that his move violates the constitutional declaration, as the issue should have been settled via an official session, but "Aqila rejected that."

"There is no text in the road map that regulates the committee's selection mechanism, and this may give a loophole to Saleh who violates the laws and does whatever he wants without referring to the members."

Meanwhile, HoR member Jibril Wahid had confirmed the validity of the names chosen by the Parliament Spreaker, which include Ramadan Shambash, Nasr El-Din Muhanna, Saleh Himma, Saleh Qalameh, Al-Mabrouk Al-Khattabi, and Ibtisam Al-Rubai.
