The final statement of Palermo Conference has stressed the importance of completing the constitutional entitlement and holding the elections by spring 2019.

"There is no room for a military solution in Libya. The peaceful settlement is the only solution to the crisis," the statement read, insisting that the political agreement is the only framework for restoring stability in Libya.

The statement welcomed the commitment of the Libyan parties and the efforts made to push the House of Representatives towards issuing a referendum law in order to complete the constitutional process and head for credible and peaceful elections.

The statement also recalled the importance of respecting the electoral results, insisting that any party who seeks to obstruct the electoral process must be held accountable.

The participants pledged to actively support the outcome of the UN-backed National Congress and to press the key players to implement its outcomes without delay, in addition, to support the building of a unified military institution under a civilian authority.

They also stressed to punish any party attempting to violate the ceasefire in Tripoli, underlining their rejection to any resort to violence, as well as to follow up the full implementation of the new security agreements in Tripoli based on the redeployment of regular forces to replace armed groups.

In conclusion, the attendance called on Libya's neighbours to support the stability in Libya, stressing their readiness to assist in building the capacity of security institutions.

The Palermo Conference on Libya was held for the past two days in Palermo, Italy, under the sponsorship of the Italian Government and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
