Libya's coastguards said Saturday they had rescued 278 illegal immigrants on four dinghies off Al-Khums, Al-Zawiya and Tripoli's shores.

The coastguards said one other immigrant has been confirmed dead, adding that the immigrants were from African and Arab countries and that they were sent to Tripoli Naval Base, Al-Khums and Al-Zawiya ports, while some of them were sent to migration centers.

The coastguards added that 128 immigrants were rescued off Al-Khums shores and were sent to the city's coastguards' headquarters since the Interior Ministry had closed Al-Khums migration center among two others.

The latest interception and rescue operation by the Libyan coastguards was saving 391 immigrants in northeastern Tripoli.
