The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, met in Tripoli on Tuesday with the Head of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) Emad Al-Sayeh and the deputy head of the UNSMIL for political affairs Stephanie Williams.
The meeting, according to Al-Sirraj's media office, discussed the preparedness of the HNEC for the upcoming elections once the constitutional basis is founded.
Al-Sirraj said that it is very important that the HNEC shouldn't face any legal problems or legitimacy issues while conducting the referendum and then the elections.
"Everything should be in line with the Libyan laws." Al-Sirraj added.
He vowed to provide the needed funds as part of the 2019 budget to the HNEC to help it execute its work without security and logistical problems.
The constitution referendum is still in the dark as many have so far refused the law issued by the House of Representatives (HoR), especially the High Council of State (HCS.)
HCS's Head Khalid Al-Mishri rejected the HoR's constitutional amendments and the referendum law, saying they are at odds with the Libyan Political Agreement.
The HoR passed the constitution referendum law on November 26 and divided Libya into three electoral zones and tied the adoption of the constitution to a vote of 50%+1 from each zone - that is two thirds of Libyan voters.
