The US Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland discussed on Tuesday with Deputy Prime Minister Ramadan Abu Jinnah the security in the southern region, as well as the military unification, national reconciliation, and preparations for elections in Libya.

The US Embassy in Libya said in a statement that Ambassador Norland condemned during a phone call with Abu Jinnah the attack in Sabha and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.

Norland affirmed Washington's support for the Libyan government’s ongoing efforts to improve security in the south, unify the country’s military forces, increase control over the southern border region, and safeguard Libyan sovereignty.

The ambassador confirmed that these issues would be topics at the upcoming Berlin ministerial meeting, welcoming the Deputy Prime Minister's commitment to achieving sustainable reconciliation throughout the country, while both agreed that national elections should be held as scheduled on December 24.
