The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland has said that members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) Advisory Committee (AC) had been offered an opportunity to forge consensus on forming a new government that would pave the way for elections.

The US embassy in Libya tweeted ambassador Norland's statements, in which he wished members of the LPDF Advisory Committee success in the Geneva meeting scheduled to take place during this week, stressing that it comes at a critical juncture in the Libyan political process.

"The AC members have the ability to place the aspirations of all Libyans above the interests of some Libyan and foreign parties," the statement read.

Norland called on the committee to seize the opportunity to reach an agreement on forming a new interim executive authority that would set the stage for national elections later this year.

He indicated that the committee has the mandate to restore Libya's sovereignty and respond to the Libyan people's call for change, urging them to move while there's still a chance as the opportunity now created in Libya cannot be maintained indefinitely, as he put it.
