The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) has held a meeting with a group of human rights organizations in Tunis, as well as the African Union Special Representative for Libya, Wahida Al-Ayari, to discuss the illegal immigration file.

In statement, the NCHRL said the meeting discussed illegal migration and the situation of African migrants and refugees in Libya, in addition to other topics on how to work on finding solutions to the issues at hand and enabling the illegal immigrants to return voluntarily to their countries as soon as possible.

It was pointed out that embassies and consulates were delaying in their efforts to follow-up on the conditions of their nationals, which resulted in delayed completion of repatriation procedures.

Those present stressed the importance of continued communication and cooperation between civil society organizations in Libya because of their prominent and positive role that contributes to alleviating the suffering of African migrants in Libya.
