The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) has condemned the video circulating on social media showing torture of African migrants in Libya.

“We condemn this heinous crime and inhumane abuse against some African migrants and we have seen the video showing such acts against the migrants in Libya.” The NCHRL said in a Tuesday statement.

It lashed out as well on the organized crime networks and human traffickers saying they are responsible for this in exchange of money.

“We also feel deeply sorry to see the European countries’ policies that aim to intercept migrants from Africa in the Mediterranean and returning them to Libya leaving them liable for crimes and abuses by the criminals’ networks and human traffickers.” The statement reads.

“EU, especially Italy are to blame for these crimes as they come after the policies made singlehandedly by the EU and Italy, which only aggravated the suffering of African migrants.” The NCHRL added.

The statement urged the Libyan interior and foreign ministries to probe these crimes against African migrants in Libya and bring the perpetrators to justice together with the organized crimes’ networks and human traffickers.

A video circulated on social media and media outlets showed African migrants being allegedly tortured in Libya.
