The National Guard (NG) deplored on Friday the heavy clashes in densely populated areas in Abu Salim neighborhood of Tripoli.

The NG urged in a statement the Interior Ministry to curb the warring groups, which it said “operate under the ministry.”

It also asked the ministry to set up a probe into the clashes and bring the wrongdoers to justice.

“We are exerting efforts to stop the fighting in coordination with the elders of Abu Salim,” the NG statement reads.

The National Guard warned that if the clashes did not stop, it would intervene to protect the civilians and state properties, and bring the fighting to an end.

Al-Burki and Ganiewa armed brigades continued Friday their heavy exchange of fire for the second day leaving around 10 gunmen from both sides dead.
