Misrata-led forces declare liberation of Sirte from IS
The Misrata-led forces have declared the full liberation of Sirte from the terrorist group of IS after seven consecutive months of ferocious clashes within the city and on its outskirts.
According to sources from the battleground, Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos forces placed their grip on the last holdouts of IS diehards after fierce clashes that started since the early morning on Tuesday and saw the Misrata-led forces combing through the final three buildings, where the remnants of IS terror group were barricading.
“During the relentless clashes of today, we have lost two fighters and 29 others were injured as we advanced on the last three pockets of the terrorists.” The media office of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos reported Tuesday morning before the liberation.
According to the spokesman of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos, Mohammed Al-Ghasri, 30 IS diehards surrendered to the Misrata-led forces while they were moving forward on the last terror pockets in one of Jiza neighborhood’s nooks.
“Three IS militants blew themselves up before we had reached them, but they caused only material damage.” Al-Ghasri told the press.
Regarding the declaration of the liberation on the media, Al-Ghasri commented that Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos forces’ job is military combat and they got it done, “However declaring the liberation is the job of the political authority in Libya after they reach out to us for details,” he added.
