The Ministry of Social Affairs held a ceremony on Saturday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tripoli to mark the World Day Against Child Labour, which falls on June 12 of each year.
The guests highlighted the negative impact of child labour and stressed the need to take action against this phenomenon and end it in all its forms.
According to the UN, the child labour population in the Arab states amounts to one million, representing 3% of the region.
The event featured several scientific papers, which dealt with the legal legislation and the international conventions related to child labour. They also focused on the social and psychological effects that compromise the mental and educational development of children.
The representative of UNICEF was the chief guest at the occasion, besides the advisor to the Ministry of Social Affairs, representatives of concerned civil society organizations, officials from the ministries of justice, culture, and labour, and the General Authority for Theatre.
