Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation Ali Al-Abed Al-Ridha unveiled Thursday that his ministry has approved an employment package to facilitate job creation in the private sector in Libya.

The minister gave the hint at the 5+5 Dialogue Forum that gathered labour ministers of Western Mediterranean countries in Alicante of Spain.

To expand employment opportunities, he indicated that his ministry will scale up its support for small and medium enterprises. It would also focus on training young people and encourage them to engage in the private sector.

He also announced the launching of a national project for the rehabilitation and integration of individuals, which targets those affiliated with armed formations and helps them establish their own businesses.

Addressing Libya's response to the Covid-19 outbreak, the minister highlighted the precautionary measures imposed at workplaces in Libya, including reducing working hours and employees by 25% of the total workforce in the country.

"The government took the appropriate preventive measures, which helped achieve a healthy and safe return," the minister said, though he noted that social distancing would remain a primary measure as part of its plan to improve working conditions and ensure occupational safety standards.

In conclusion, he noted the importance for similar meetings to continue as they provide an opportunity to exchange views and consolidates friendship and cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean, as he put it.
