Ministry of Interior has called on the Council of Ministers to declare a state of emergency and take extraordinary measures in order to deter crime and instil a sense of personal safety in civilians. This came after the murder of a young man in front of a shop, in Sarraj area, west of Tripoli, last Thursday.

The Ministry has affirmed that the relevant authorities will take all necessary measures to investigate and arrest those involved in the incident, in order to bring them to trial.

"Such crimes, committed by a group of outlaw mobs, is another form of terrorism, which does not differ from the extremist groups' terrorism nor Haftar's attack on the capital," the ministry explained in a statement, stressing that it will continue to confront terrorism in all its forms.

A man was shot dead in a public street in front of a shop, and his brother was wounded.

Janzour Security Directorate confirmed that the perpetrators had been identified and legal procedures will take place to ensure they are brought to justice. One of the killers has been handed over by his father while the two others are still on the run.

Surveillance cameras at a shop in Sarraj area caught the whole incident and was a key piece of evidence in finding the killers.

The video surveillance was posted on Facebook and showed the dramatic moments which lead to the death of the victim. The video was met with outrage and criticism by social media users.
