Minister of Housing and Construction, Abu Bakr Al-Ghawi, has highlighted Libya's contribution to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda by activating local administration, supporting youth projects, and establishing reconstruction and housing funds for the youth and needy families.

Addressing the High-level Meeting of the UN General Assembly to Assess Implementation of the New Urban Agenda in the United Nations, New York, on Thursday, Minister Al-Ghawi underscored that the Government of National Unity has adopted a short-term strategy to address the existing urban conditions at the local level within the "Return to life" initiative launched by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.

A statement by the ministry's media office said Al-Ghawi exchanged notes with representatives of UNGA member states on the evaluation of the new urban agenda and their recommendations in particular.

He noted that the GNU implemented several decisions and guidelines for achieving sustainable development goals, including activating local administration by enabling municipalities to exercise their powers.
