The Military Prosecutor Office is pushing the Criminal Investigation Department to include Khalifa Haftar in its list against the background of five cases brought against him for crimes he allegedly committed between 2019-2020.

Public Prosecutor of the Military Prosecutor Office Mohamed Gharouda said that Haftar violated the Military Penalties Law No. 37 of 1973 that criminalizes military intervention in politics.

In his correspondence to the Criminal Investigation Department, he stated that every soldier who held political meetings, participated in demonstrations, unrest, or electoral campaigns, or incited to do any of the above acts, shall be punished with imprisonment for a period of five years.

It may be worth noting that the Military Prosecutor Office had addressed the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) to turn down the candidacy applications of Khalifa Haftar and Saif Gaddafi, as they are wanted for murder and incitement cases.

The Military Prosecutor Massoud Arhouma explains that his decision comes per Article 10 of Law No. 1 of 2021 on eligibility to the presidency, confirming that Saif and Haftar were presented with an arrest warrant and wanted for summoning for several cases.
