The Presidential Council Head Muhammad Menfi has called on the European Union (EU) to cooperate in the illegal immigration file, saying it is draining Libya's security and economic resources.

"Libya should not be made a guardian of Europe in light of its difficult circumstances," Menfi told the EU Council Head Charles Michel on the sidelines of the 6th African-European Summit in Brussels on Friday, according to a statement by the PC.

The PC head reiterated the need for joint action to secure the maritime borders with the European Union. He stressed the need to take into account the conditions of migrants and ensure respect for international human rights laws.

Above the summit's outcomes, the two sides discussed Libyan-European relations, including prospects of cooperation and the EU's contribution in all fields to support security and stability in Libya.
