Menfi meets Erdogan in first official visit to Turkey after taking post

Chairman of the Presidential Council (PC) Mohammad Menfi, on Friday, arrived in Istanbul accompanied by Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi and government officials, where he held a long meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Vahid Al-Din Palace.

This was the first official visit to Turkey by members of the new PC after taking their post earlier this month.

The meeting which was attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşolu and Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin discussed relations between Turkey and Libya and steps to further develop cooperation and bilateral ties, in addition to current regional and international issues, according to Turkish media.

A statement by Menfi's media office said that the latter raised several important files that bring the two countries together while emphasizing the unity, sovereignty of Libya, and the importance of the relationship between the two countries.

The PC head reiterated his commitment to the obligations of the transitional phase, including holding elections in December of this year and working to establish stability in the country through achieving comprehensive national reconciliation.

For his part, President Erdogan expressed full support for the Libyan Presidential Council, the Government of National Unity, and the unity and sovereignty of Libya, emphasizing the deep-rooted relations that bind the two countries.

Erdogan said that Turkey will always stand with the Libyan people and is ready to assist in various economic and development fields to help Libyans reach an independent and prosperous state.
