The Head of the Presidential Council (PC), Muhammad Menfi, has officially announced the launch of the national reconciliation project in Libya.

Menfi congratulated Libyans on this "achievement," praising all efforts made to reach this step, in reference to the release of several political prisoners, including a son of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi and the latter's secretary Ahmed Ramadan.

The media office of the PC head quoted him as saying that the decision would not have been possible without "the genuine desire and true willingness of the Libyan people to turn the page on the past.

"The kick-start phase of the national reconciliation program reflects a real desire of Libyans to overcome differences, renounce division, stop the bloodshed, and put an end to all sufferings," he added, stressing the importance to come together and consolidate efforts to build a unified peaceful state.
