The member of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord in Libya, Mohammed Emmari Zayed said the assaults of French President Emmanuel Macron on Islam, Muslims and Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) are slurs to the religion and worshippers across the globe.

Zayed said Macron's remarks only degrade him and have zero effect on Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), saying France's history has always been "brutal" despite claims of freedom of expression and human rights.

He indicated that France's slogans of freedom and democracy are blotting the real "hypocrisy, prejudice and double standards" it uses in its policies within Macron's government, besides French flagrant interventions in other countries, weapons' supplies to wars and other criminal acts against humanity.

Macron's insistence on protecting the caricature of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and Islamic principles sparked worldwide outrage.

The Libyan Mufti, Al-Saddiq Al-Gharyani, said if Macron's "racist and anti-Islam statements" were said by a Muslim leader in an opposite scenario against the west, the Muslim leader would be called racist, radical, and terrorist, saying millions of Muslims should speak out in public against Macron's statements.
