Mayors of Libya's western cities have welcomed the vote of confidence granted to the Government of National Unity (GNU), stressing their readiness to work with the new administration to ensure a successful transition in the country.

The mayors held a meeting Saturday in the western city of Zawiya with the National Association for Youth Support.

In a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting, the participants reiterated the need to activate the role of all institutions, alleviate the suffering of Libyans, and attach special importance to youth for their effective role in building society.

They also called on the new government to speed up the transfer of administrative and financial powers to local government departments and activate Law No. (59) of (2012) in this regard.

In general, the meeting discussed the priorities and challenges facing local government administrations, including actions to develop housing construction for young people and supporting them to start-up enterprises.
