Municipality Mayors from different Libyan cities held a meeting on Monday to express their standpoints regarding the Skhirat dialogue.

 

Mayors of Tajoura, Souq Aljomaa, Sabha, Sabratha, Wadi Bawanis, Western Zawiya, Southern Zawiya, Central Zawiya, Barak Shati, Adri Shati, Surman, Al-Khomis, Souq Al-Khamis, Gharyan, Tarhouna and Al-Asabah reaffirmed, in a statement, the need for the formation of a backup team to accompany the General National Congress’s dialogue team as agreed in the previous meeting on June 06.

 

They also indicated that the only solution to the crisis lies in pursuing in the dialogue process until a political agreement is reached, stressing that they utterly reject the dictations of the UNSMIL, which could lose the Libyans’ trust unless it drops the side-over-side favoring policy.

 

“We call for respect for the verdicts of the Libyan Judiciary, which is the only guarantee of achieving stability and security in Libya and obstacles conflicts and chaos.”

 

The Mayors added, concluding by stressing their commitment to choosing their representatives for any upcoming UNSMIL sponsored meetings or dialogues, pointing out that any municipal participation out of the Tripoli Municipalities’ agreement would be illegal.
