Muhammad Menfi, Head of the Presidential Council (PC), told Charles Michel, President of the European Council, on Saturday that Libyan funds should only be managed by the Libyans themselves.

The two officials met on the sidelines of the fourth semi-annual AU - Regional Economic Communities - Regional Mechanisms meetings in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

Discussions focused on the political process in Libya, and the mechanism of strengthening Libyan-European relations and partnership, especially in the development field.

They also touched upon other files, including food security and the expulsion of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya.

Menfi reviewed with the EU official the initiative launched by the Presidential Council to reach a political solution as he reaffirmed the PC's keenness to fulfill the demands of the Libyan people by holding parliamentary and presidential elections.

For his part, the EU Council's head reiterated the bloc's readiness to provide all possible support for the success of the national reconciliation.

President Menfi arrived in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, on Saturday to participate in the biannual coordination meeting between the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities.
