Libyan national Hussein Zayet has escaped from Saudi Arabia after being holed up in the Libyan Consulate in Jeddah for several months, Alnabaa TV reported on Sunday, citing a close source of his family.

Zayet took refuge in the Libyan Consulate in Jeddah after the arrest of two of his roommates by Saudi authorities during their visit to the country to perform Umrah.

No further details were given about the circumstances surrounding the escape.

Meanwhile, local sources confirmed Monday that Zayet arrived in hometown of Zawiya hours after arriving at Misrata Airport via Istanbul.

Since June, Saudi authorities have arrested three Libyans at Jeddah International Airport on their way home after performing Umrah.
