Maltese national Neville Gafa confirms he met with Presidential Council officials as “projects director”

Maltese national Neville Gafa has denied meeting with senior officials of Presidential Council as an envoy from the Maltese Prime Minister, saying his visit to Libya was a personal one.

Speaking to The Libya Observer, Gafa said “all meetings were unofficial as no note verbal were exchanged for obvious reasons that I was visiting on a personal level."

Gafa met late last week with Presidential Council member Ahmed Mitiq, Interior Minister Fathi Pashagha and Health Minister Omer Bashir. The Presidential Council reported that he was a personal envoy from the Maltese Prime Minister, but this was later denied by Maltese media forcing the Presidential Council to delete the news.

Gafa confirmed to The Libya Observer that during the meetings he never presented himself as a special envoy to the Prime Minister, but as a projects director within the Health Ministry, sending us a photo of the business card that he exchanged with the Presidential Council officials.

“During the meetings we discussed several issues which are of interest to both countries.” He said without disclosing the party that arranged the meeting for him.

Gafa revealed that he has been investigated by the Maltese Authorities and no evidence of impropriety was found on his part.

“I was never arraigned to court.” He stressed.

The “fake” identity of Gafa had sparked a nationwide controversy. The Libyan Foreign Ministry arranging the meetings of Gafa with the Presidential Council officials.
