The Advisory Committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) concluded its meeting on Saturday after a round of consultations that started on Thursday aiming at discussing the proposals to be presented at the LPDF meeting in Geneva next Monday.

Libyan News Agency reported sources from inside the meeting as saying that the discussion revolved around the proposal of the legal committee from last May and other points of understanding on different entanglements as well as the issue of the constitutional basis for December elections before they go to endorsement.

On Thursday, UNSMIL said the Advisory Committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum commenced a three-day in-person consultative meeting in Tunis in preparation for the upcoming LPDF plenary discussions which will begin in Switzerland on 28 June.

Addressing the opening the session today, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, thanked the Advisory Committee members for once again shouldering their responsibility and called on them “To consider the broadest possible compromise, building on the LPDF Legal Committee Proposal, that would address concerns expressed by LPDF members,” during their meeting in May.

Kubis also reiterated the message by the High Representatives of the members of the Berlin Process, including Libya who met yesterday in Berlin that “Free, fair and inclusive presidential and parliament elections need to take place on 24 December 2021 as set out in the LPDF Roadmap and their results need to be accepted by all”.
